V/A - Vorwärts [Tape] 1987

Here's a tape which I bought during my civil service in Lüneburg 1990. Vorwärts is the first publication of the young Hamburg label L'Age D'Or and with bands from so-called Hamburger Schule (named after a musical current in Germany during the 1980s and early 1990s. With some active bands and artists it is still present. It is encompassing elements from punk, grunge and experimental pop, and featuring intelligent lyrics. It established new grounds for the use of German language in pop music). Was interesting for me at the time, paid five DeutschMark and the bands are, of course totally unknown to me. But I find very interesting bands on it and a few manage to release one or two records and I bought a couple. The sound on this tape ranked from Pop, Alternative to Punk (no Hardcore) and is a nice listening. Overall, an interesting little gem exceptional HH music.

CIRCLE JERKS - Live @ Fabrik/Hamburg 02.12.1987

Start today with a tape which I bought in Hamburg at a gig in 1990 I think. During my community service in Lüneburg I visit the second largest city in Germany frequently because there plays the music. The Fabrik is a cool location and I recommend that you should have been there go to a concert necessarily. A lot of good bands I saw there, Razzia, Dackelblut, Slime, etc... acute acoustic and always an excellent atmosphere. I think these recordings underline that a litte and let yourselves carried away. The Circle Jerks are one of my favourite US punk bands, always energetic and wild on stage. The sound quality is quite good and with over thirty-three songs, a decent mix of old classics and new songs, full with power and fun, ca. eighty minutes. Today Mr.Keith Morris toured with OFF! and you should stick your head in the sand if you didn't known. So I hope you like this post, was a small marathon for me (tape rippin' is truly a long task).

VON GAM - Ung & Söt (Demo) 1981

Last one today is a rare tape from a band which came from Hovmantorp and I would like to use some info from Sobriquet Magazine: "With the exception of 1981's Ung & Söt, a 7 song cassette that was limited to two hundred copies and a pair of compilation appearances ("Mode" can be found on Bloodstains Across Sweden #3 and both "Hasse Parasit" and "Mode" appear on Killed By Death #41), Von Gam's recorded output is limited to this little artifact. Although Von Gam's lineup for most of the band's 100+ shows consisted of Anders Karlsson on guitar, Bo Lindberg on bass, and Jan Vestergren on drums and vocals, Per Åke "Sticky Bomb" Holmberg (better known in punk circles as the drummer for Kriminella Gitarrer) appears on the recording as a backing vocalist. Holmberg's sonic signature is perhaps most noticeable, however, in the considerable amount of reverb he added to the disk during the mixing process. The band play a driving, mid-tempo rhythm sound and gritty vocals. A pretty solid bit of straight-forward (and totally danceable) 77-style punk. Well worth a listen." The bands only release Hasse Parasit came out in 1980 in an edition of only 500 copies is one of the rarest and most sought after Swedish punk records. Von Gam is cool and always welcome.

MESK - Demo 1980

From this band exists only this demo tape which they released in a small edition and two songs from the Värning For Punk, a three CD compilation which was released in 1994 at Distortion Records. Mesk were from Stockholm and were active from 1979 - 1982. They offer four decent '77 punk numbers. I add the two songs from the comp. to that and that's all for now. The next hard working day is on and I have to leave soon. The cover for this is not the original, done by myself, better than nothing...anyway
